ICLS provides legal and technical training, advice and support in order to ensure accountability for war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
Our clients and the beneficiaries of our services include national, regional, hybrid and international courts, judges, prosecutors, defence counsel, court registries, governmental authorities, armed forces, non governmental organisations and businesses.
ICLS projects are implemented mainly by ICLS Experts. They are selected according to their professional, linguistic and cultural backgrounds, and the particular needs of the specific projects. See the Projects page for the names of ICLS Experts linked to specific projects.
ICLS Experts have extensive experience in the fields of international criminal, humanitarian and human-rights law, judicial reform and transitional justice. They include a large number of individuals with work experience at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, the International Criminal Court, the Special Court for Sierra Leone, the United Nations peacekeeping missions in East Timor, Kosovo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe. They also include judges, prosecutors and defence counsel practising in domestic systems, as well as law professors. Many also have extensive experience in providing technical assistance to domestic courts in post-conflict countries. Because ICLS Experts can be assigned to ICLS projects on a short-term basis, ICLS has secured access to some of the most qualified legal professionals in the relevant fields.
